Spoon River Anthology: Insights from an Illinois Classic
A program of lively poetic readings and insightful commentary, this presentation focuses on the most widely known book of poetry from Illinois. Among the engaging topics are community conflict, American ideals, the struggle for self-realization, and the forces that shape human lives. The speaker is an accomplished performer of oral interpretation, as well as a widely known Edgar Lee Masters scholar, the editor of Spoon River Anthology: An Annotated Edition.
John Hallwas holds a PhD from the University of Florida and recently retired from Western Illinois University. He has received a number of teaching and service awards and has written more than a dozen books and scores of articles on Illinois history and literature, including the recently published Dime Novel Desperadoes.
