Alice Ryerson Hayes is honored for her creation of the Ragdale Foundation, a serene place where over 150 writers and artists from across the nation and all over the world annually live and work. Housed on the grounds of her grandfather''s estate, the esteemed Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, this historic family estate has become an integral part of Lake Forest''s cultural community. Ms. Ryerson has provided the community with numerous opportunities to view the artwork of the residents there, listen to poetry readings, or participate in writing workshops conducted at Ragdale.
