Ladenburger
Nominated By:
The Honorable James S. Krischke
Lake Zurich
The city of Lake Zurich was founded in 1896 by German immigrants and many families in Lake Zurich still maintain a link with relatives in Germany. Through years of service, Art Ladenburger has helped to foster an understanding of the history, culture, and peoples of Germany, and their selection of Lake Zurich as a place to make a new home in the new world. For more than thirty years, Mr. Ladenburger has taught in the Lake Zurich School District 95. Besides teaching German, he has been taking junior high school children and their parents on more than twenty-five trips to Germany. He has gone beyond that in organizing adult trips to Germany, as well. In particular, he has been the primary liaison between the Village of Lake Zurich and the City of Nittenau, Bavaria, Germany, Lake Zurich's Sister City. Mr. Ladenburger has unselfishly given his time and energy to the Sister City Committee of the Village of Lake Zurich to ensure a strong and useful program that helps both communities understand each other's cultural heritage.
