For year, in both public and private life, Barbara McNamara has dedicated herself to furthering the humanities in the City of Rockford. While serving as First Lady of Rockford during the 1980's, she worked with the Rockford Area Arts Council to promote the arts in the community. More recently, she worked at WomanSpace, an organization that provides cultural and educational experiences to women and men, and promotes service and leadership qualities. Ms. McNamara was also instrumental in forming and organizing ?Know Your Rockford,? a lecture and field trip series that focuses on discovering various parts of the community. Tours include historical sites and gardens, among others. She has also organized noon-hour seminars called ?Lunch and Learn,? exploring different cultural and historical topics. Ms. McNamara and her husband have been long-time residents in one of the cities historical districts, and she has volunteered many hours to promote the area and to continuing beautification of the neighborhood.
