Dale Svela has worked to not only preserve the heritage of his community, but also to insure its future by improving education for the children in Steward. He is a member of the Depot Committee, a group in charge of the restoration of the Village''s 1895 depot donated by the Burlington in 1976. Originally the 1976 committee was going to make the structure a library, but nothing more was done than to collect books. Mr. Svela has been instrumental in helping organizing this collection of books, some dating from the 1800''s. He has also helped with the museum aspect of the Depot, helping to sort through things to see what is of value. Mr. Sevla has also been instrumental in expanding the local school system, working on the committee that planned the addition to our elementary school. He also helped with the reorganization of the school''s library when the addition was completed. Mr. Svela has also been very supportive of the school''s extracurricular functions, like musicals, concerts, and sports.
