A veteran of World War II, Dal Estes landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6th, 1944, and also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. As a Road Scholar for the Illinois Humanities Council, Mr. Estes thrills and educates audiences across Illinois with his presentation about his experiences, "Private Ryan''s Sergeant." His first-hand account of the war details the ways in which ordinary people can join together in extraordinary moments that can change history. In addition to the many lectures and presentations his gives to educate Illinoisans on the history of World War II, Mr. Estes has been instrumental in the plans for the Pontiac War Museum and Learning Center, which will honor all Livingston County residents who served during armed conflicts, preserve their stories, and hold artifacts donated by veterans and their families.
