Midlothian

Midlothian resident Don Dalton is head of the court reporting department at South Suburban College's Oak Forest campus and author of the book, A Tribute to the Men and Women of Midlothian in World War II. Dalton began the book eight years ago as a way to pay tribute to his own father and the men and women who served during World War II. With the assistance of former Midlothian Historical Society director Dorothy Oleshko, he found WWII veterans in Midlothian, mostly by word of mouth. He conducted more than 100 interviews with the veterans or their relatives so that he could preserve their stories in the book. The resulting book is 737 pages and includes photos of veterans at home and overseas. Dalton found a publisher and sold the books at cost. He also organized a book signing; many of the veterans profiled in the book were in attendance to meet with people and autograph the book.

Midlothian Village President Terrence Stephens described this project as "a labor of love for Mr. Dalton, who devoted eight years and a lot of sweat and tears to the project. … Mr. Dalton has given the Village of Midlothian a real treasure."
