is being nominated for his work with Shimer College. Shimer College, a college whose curriculum is based almost entirely on the humanistic tradition, was on the verge of disappearing when Dr. Moon became president and brought the college back to life twenty-five years ago. He has acted as fundraiser/networker, chief operating officer, and teacher of multiple courses every semester. Dr. Moon was responsible for moving the college from Mt. Carroll to Waukegan and establishing it within the new community. Thanks to Dr. Moon''s efforts, Shimer College has become an important part of Waukegan and an important vehicle for teaching the humanities. Shimer College runs and staffs a free learning center for local elementary school students every summer. Shimer faculty members regularly teach courses in the Waukegan schools. High school students have been permitted to attend classes at Shimer for a fraction of the normal tuition cost. Dr. Moon has revitalized a humanistic college and shared it with his community.
