Edgar and Nancy Muenzer have taken their talent and their love of music, and have brought it to the residents of the City of Park Ridge. Mr. Muenzer retired after nearly fifty years as a violinist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. But retirement from the orchestra by no means meant his retirement from music. Along with his wife, Nancy, Mr. Muenzer helped to found the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra, which gave its first concert in December 1994. Since then he has served as the Orchestra's music director and conductor, and his wife has worked tirelessly behind the scenes, organizing volunteers, helping to establish a board of directors, and forming the orchestra auxiliary. PRCO now presents a season of four concerts and a Young People's Concert each year. Relying almost completely on the support of volunteers, the good will of the community, and their gifted musicians, they have grown in 10 short years to an award-winning orchestra. By making the orchestra's music available to children through special concerts and by providing scholarships, Edgar and Nancy Muenzer's PRCO has given area youth the opportunity to appreciate music and to learn about opportunities for careers in music. The Muenzers are recognized for sharing their knowledge of music with the community for the past decade. The product of the dreams, vision, and leadership, the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra, will be their legacy to Park Ridge.
