A member of one of Mascoutah's founding families, Ethelyn Boyd is honored for her commitment to education and heritage in her community. Mrs. Boyd''s lifelong interest in education led not only to her 17-year career as a teacher, but also to her active involvement in providing educational opportunities in her community. She set up a number of scholarships for college-bound students, and she was a key member of an executive committee that was instrumental in establishing Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Mrs. Boyd''s contributions to historic preservation in her community have also been fundamental. She was the founder and past president of the Mascoutah Historical Society, and she is also a member of the Illinois State Museum Society. She is also a life member of the St. Clair County Historical Society and a life member and former Board member of the State of Illinois Historical Society. In addition, the home she was born and raised in (and still lives in) is on the National Register of Historic Places. An avid world traveler, Mrs. Boyd has also been a writer for Illinois Magazine, and has won numerous awards for her many civic contributions.
