As a teacher in Libertyville schools for more than 25 years, Frank Keith Underbrink has taken students on archaeological digs to experience excavating work while learning the techniques of archaeology. Mr. Underbrink is Professor Emeritus of the Chicago Archaeological Society. With his vast knowledge of other cultures, he encourages students to travel to gain understanding of other countries, peoples and their cultures, to study foreign languages to help communicate with other people, and gain new ideas to help think about our world and its problems. He is an advisor to a Model UN team which studies roles of individual nations, debating, and negotiating solutions. As an archaeologist and traveler, Mr. Underbrink has visited and/or worked in 74 different countries, taking thousands and thousands of photographs that have been organized into several different slide/lecture programs. Mr. Underbrink was one of the featured speakers at a four-day seminar at College of Lake County concerning issues in the Middle East. Mr. Underbrink recently completed eight years on the board of directors of the Libertyville Mundelein Historical Society as vice president and program director. Mr. Underbrink often serves as a tour guide for the Ansel B. Cook house and works tirelessly to promote it. As a member of the Lake County Bicentennial committee, he arranged for the Bicentennial wagon train itinerary to go past Libertyville High School so that students take advantage of the historic occasion while in school. Mr. Underbrink is also the founding president of the Lake County Audubon Society.
