Founder of the Third World Press, Haki R. Madhubuti is honored for his work as a poet, educator, editor, and publisher who brings the literary arts of African-Americans to the City of Chicago and the nation. He is Distinguished University Professor of English and Founder and Director-Emeritus of the Gwendolyn Brooks Center at Chicago State University, where he also directs the University''s MFA in Creative Writing Program. Co-founder and chairman of the board of the National Literary Hall of Fame for Writers of African Descent, Professor Madhubuti co-founded the Annual Gwendolyn Brooks Writers Conference at Chicago State University in 1990. He has published more than 20 books, including the best selling Don''t Cry, Scream, and Groundwork: New and Selected Poems from 1966-1996.
