Evanston
James Lytle, a native Evanstonian, has spent much of his adult life working toward the betterment of the City of Evanston. As mayor of the city from 1977 to 1985, Mr. Lytle was instrumental in the construction of a new downtown transportation center, a public library, and a joint effort between the city and Northwestern University to establish a research park. After leaving office, Mr. Lytle became an active volunteer, helping to establish the Evanston Community Foundation, an organization that facilitates charitable giving, strengthen Evanston''s community of organizations that operate for the public benefit, and encourages partnerships and collaborations across the community. Now on the Foundation's Council of Advisors, Mr. Lytle was on the original steering committee that established the Foundation and served as chair of the first advisory committee. His family has also established The Lytle Family Fund within the Foundation''s endowment. Though he is presently an executive at a local bank, Mr. Lytle still finds time to remain active as a volunteer. He is the advisory director of Leadership Evanston?a grantee of the Evanston Community Foundation?as well as the advisory director of both the Evanston Historical Society and the Evanston McGaw YMCA.
