is a lifetime resident of Bethalto who is honored for the active role she plays in bringing culture and an awareness of heritage to her community. Mrs. Bourland was a charter director and Past President of Bethalto Spirit, the civic organization in Bethalto. In addition to her volunteer work as Chairman of the Christmas Walk, she initiated an afghan project in Bethalto that brought images of the community''s historic homes and landmarks to the attention of local citizens as these images were incorporated into the material of the afghan. Mrs. Bourland also highlighted local culture and crafts through the coordination of an annual quilt exhibit at a local retirement community.
