A talented and accomplished individual, Joseph Woods voluntarily serves as the Poet Laureate for the Village of Park Forest. He was selected for this distinction by a committee of local residents who reviewed a number of applications before deciding on Mr. Woods. As Poet Laureate, Mr. Woods gives of his time to work with school children in Park Forest to better acquaint them with the world of poetry; in addition, he composes works to mark important occasions in the Village. Mr. Woods played an important and significant role in the Village of Park Forest's annual celebration of African American History Month. Mr. Woods was also the recipient of the 2005 Florence D. Cunningham Poet Laureate Award, granted by The Park Forest Commission on Human Relations and the Park Forest Public Library. He is the author of "Black Goes With Everything" and "Oh Those Old Souls That Sewed My Soul" among many other poems.
