Hughes
Nominated By:
The Honorable Mark W. Damisch
Northbrook
Judith Hughes loves learning and loves history. Not only has she become a Village of Northbrook history researcher, she has devoted countless hours of her time to promoting the humanities in her community. Thanks to her extraordinary communication and collaboration skills, Ms. Hughes has been involved in several organizations during the forty-two years she has called Northbrook home. When the village formed the Arts Commission in 2002, Ms. Hughes was tapped to serve as chairman because she alone possessed the unique abilities and commitment to launch an ambitious new program without cash resources. She has been a member of the Northbrook Historical Society board of directors since 1995, serving as vice-president from 1996 to 1999, and as president ever since. She has also been a children's program docent since 1989. Ms. Hughes was appointed chairman of the Northbrook Centennial 2001 Committee, from 1997 to 2001. She served as a consultant for the award-winning centennial book, Northbrook, Illinois, The Fabric of our History,? and wrote several of the special interest sidebars. She also served as an executive producer for a centennial video ?Northbrook Illinois, An American Tapestry,? which, like the book, also won an award in 2001.
