The conductor of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Karen Lynne Deal is a leader in music education in Springfield. Her role as conductor for the Symphony has reached far beyond the orchestra hall through innovative programming, outdoor public concerts, community speaking engagements, and special appearances at area schools. Ms. Deal developed the Symphony's music education and outreach program, "Step by Step," to educate, entertain, and increase musical awareness of schoolchildren in the Springfield and Bloomington-Normal communities. The program uses songs, games, and musical treats to engage children in music education.
