Kit P. Ketchmark is the Director of the Brookfield Historical Society, a volunteer position. Ketchmark was instrumental in securing a $200,000 state grant to restore the original slate roof of Brookfield's historic train station, which now serves as the Brookfield Historical Society's headquarters and is on the National Register of Historic Places. He also plans educational speakers, arranges and guides tours of the society, raises funds, sets up informational displays at community events, and personally maintains the building grounds. Many weekend mornings, he can be found removing chipped paint, washing windows, or doing landscape work. In addition to his work at the Historical Society, he runs his own landscape design company and retired from the Village Board in April 2009 after eight years as a Brookfield Village Trustee.
Village President Michael J. Garvey say of Ketchmark's work, "I think it is fair to say the Brookfield historical Society would not still exist if it was not for Kit. … While many people indicate support for and interest in Brookfield's history, Kit is preserving that history for all of us by his countless hours of volunteer work."
