Mark W. Sorensen is honored for his efforts to share his enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, Illinois history with his community. In addition to his work as the Assistant Director of the Illinois State Archives, Mr. Sorensen served as a volunteer Board member at numerous cultural and historical organizations including the Illinois State Historical Society, the Illinois Library Association, and the Decatur Public Library Board. He was also a member of the Decatur Historical and Architectural Sites Commission from 1993 to 1999, a Trustee at the Macon County Historical Museum, and has been a judge for the Illinois History Contest for more than ten years. He has been published extensively in both Illinois Heritage and Illinois Libraries, and taught history at both the college and high school levels.
