Mary Ann Smith is honored for her role in perhaps the largest historic preservation project in Rockford''s history. Ms. Smith, along with her late husband Gordon, spent three years leading hundreds of volunteers in the campaign to renovate the Coronado Theatre, a crumbling 1927 movie palace in downtown Rockford, into a state-of-the-art performing arts center for the entire community to enjoy. As Chairman of the Friends of the Coronado, Ms. Smith demonstrated persistence and leadership in making this dream a reality.
