Pam Potter is recognized for fostering an appreciation and understanding of music in the City of Quincy. Ms. Potter's involvement with Quincy's Parochial Music Organization enables grade school children to participate in the performing arts by joining the band or orchestra. The organization is a collaborative effort on the part of the City's seven parochial schools?each without the resources to fund its own music program?to make music education available to students. Many of these students go on to excel in music at the high school and college level, as well as in the community as part of its Park Band and local symphony. In addition to the Parochial Music Organization, Ms. Potter has for many years headed up the band for Quincy Notre Dame High School. Her track record in lining up volunteers to support the program is extraordinary. Band parents sell fruit, operate concession stands, and wash cars to raise money for the many activities that the band participates in. As such, the band has traveled throughout the country and is held in high regard by music educators and professionals. Perhaps Ms. Potter's biggest contribution to the community is through her directorship of the Quincy Park Band, which provides free concerts for the community. They have a tremendous following and often draw crowds of more than a thousand to enjoy the variety of musical styles they present. Under her leadership and direction, the City even entered the Guinness Book of World Records when the Park Band and 1,835 kazoo-humming citizens played thirteen continuous minutes of marching band tunes.
