Pamela J. Whamond is honored for her role in providing quality, affordable art education for students of all ages in Park Ridge. Through her work as secretary and board member with the Park Ridge Cultural Arts Council, Ms. Whamond made this dream a reality. Drawing on the community''s history as an artist''s colony in the early 20th century, the Council utilized a vacant 100-year old storefront in downtown Park Ridge and the Brickton Art Gallery was born. Four years later, the Gallery is a center for art instruction and cultural activity with wide community support, and won a First Place Governor''s Home Town Award. Unfortunately, the Gallery goes forward without the leadership of its founding director; Ms. Whamond passed away in the spring of 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. We honor her posthumously.
