Stewart
Nominated By:
The Honorable Howard "Bud" Thompson
Prophetstown
For years the Henry C. Adams Library had been insufficiently equipped for many in the City of Prophetstown. Pat Stewart made it her mission to make the Library useful to all visitors. During her tenure on the Library's board of trustees, Ms. Stewart has moved the Library forward with her ?can do? approach. Now, not only does the Library have computer and Internet access throughout the building, it also makes available large print books, audio books, and juvenile literature. What's more, the staff is creating a database of the Echo, which is currently only available on microfilm. The Library also delivers books to patrons who cannot get to the library. Ms. Stewart, a retired teacher, organizes the summer reading program, teaches elementary classes about the library, and actively works with elementary teachers to encourage reading and library usage. Through this, her ?part-time? job, Ms. Stewart has helped to bring Prophetstown's library into the twenty-first century.
