A resident of the Petersburg area for nearly 80 years, Raymond H. Montgomery is honored for his life-long commitment to preserving the heritage of his community and to educating area youth. He has been involved in bettering community life in many ways, but is awarded the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award for his work with the Menard County Historical Society, where he is a member and past President. Mr. Montgomery is the co-author of "A Chautauqua to Remember, The Story of Old Salem," and the author of historical biographical sketches and a forthcoming book about the history of Petersburg. He also conducts tours of local historical sites for people who want to know more about the area, and volunteers at the Menard County Historical Society and Lincoln''s New Salem.
