A Skokie resident, Richard M. Lichtenstein is honored for his contribution to the greater Chicagoland community as a jazz musician, historian, and educator. In addition to his work as a teacher of English as a Second Language at nearby community colleges and centers, Mr. Lichtenstein has lectured on the history of jazz, the history of the blues, and the history of show tunes at local cultural venues and public libraries. He brings the two interests together (ESL instruction and music), easing the stress of learning a new language by engaging recent emigrants in lively musical ESL workshops. His jazz trio, Ravenswood Express, has delighted and enlightened a diverse range of communities in the Chicago area.
