Ninety-five-year-old Robert Lamm is a retired farmer who maintains a strong sense of service to the City of Freeport. Among his many activities is his involvement in an antique engine show, a trademark event of the Stephenson County Fair since 1970. Mr. Lamm has dedicated himself to preserving Illinois? agricultural heritage by maintaining the old ways of farming for future generations. At the Antique Engine Show, you will find Mr. Lamm helping make the old shocks of wheat. He also helps set up the twelve-horse-power 1888 thresher, which is operated by twelve live horses that walk in a circle to make the gears of the thresher work. Mr. Lamm has instilled in his grandchildren and the community the importance of passing down the heritage of farming and the historical roots of Northern Illinois. He is not only a good teacher, but an inspiring example of service in action.
