Sharon
Goodman
Nominated By:
The Honorable David L. Brummel
Warrenville

Sharon Goodman is the retired President of the Warrenville Library District Board of Trustees. She joined the board in 1983, when the library district was just four years old and located in the Warrenville Community Building and due to the hard work of Sharon, the board, and other supporters it moved to its own building in 1987. Sharon has been a strong advocate for the library, from making trips to Springfield to visit with legislators on Illinois Library Day to promoting the library's collections and services to friends and neighbors. While on the board, she instigated the juried "Art on the Prairie" festival, which ran for six years in the 1990s and was just restarted by the Warrenville Park District; started the Science Fair at Clifford Johnson Elementary School, which she started in 1991 and has continued ever since; helped attract and retain a competent and skilled staff; and helped introduce library services for Hispanic residents of Warrenville. In 1995, she retired from the Board, but was reappointed 18 months later, just in time to begin her work on the City-Library Task Force, which culminated in the building project that remodeled and added on to the existing library building. Sharon officially retired from the Board in 2009.

"Because of her long-standing dedication to the mission of quality library service for the Warrenville community, Sharon is held in the highest esteem by present and former library trustes and employees," says Mayor David L. Brummel.
