A resident of Danville for nearly 50 years, Sybil Stern Mervis is honored for her continuing commitment to education, libraries, and youth in her community. As Past President, and current Vice President, of the Danville Public Library Board, she spearheaded efforts to build a new library in 1995. At the state level, Ms. Mervis helped to plan a literary heritage conference at the Illinois State Library. She has introduced thousands of children to classical music and has helped promising students find scholarships. She has also authored articles for the Vermilion County Museum Heritage Quarterly on the history of the Danville Public Library and the history of the Jewish community in Danville.
Select Illinois Humanities Council programs are now available for listening or download at Chicago Public Media (WBEZ) as a part of Chicago Amplified, a web-based audio library of diverse public events recorded throughout the Chicago region.
