"Experience the Arts in Palos" presents Palos West Student Exhibit

The student exhibit will be displayed at Standard Bank & Trust Co. for the month of October, 2009 on Mondays - Thursdays 9 AM - 5 PM; Fridays 9 AM - 6 PM; and Saturdays 9 AM - 1 PM.

A "Meet the Artist" reception will be held on Saturday, October 3rd from 4 - 5 PM at the bank.

The exhibition will display from October 1, 2009 through October 31, 2009 during normal business hours: Monday - Thursday 9 AM - 5 PM; Fridays 9 AM - 7 PM; and Saturdays 9 AM - 1 PM.

Retrospecitve Exhibition featuring Illinois Artist Glen C. Davies that focuses on his series of "Bannerline" paintings influenced by his experience traveling with circuses and carnivals. Loose canvas formats reveal his personal language.

This exhibit will be on display from October 5, 200 - November 17, 2009.

Join us in conversation with Jordanian journalist Rana Husseini, who has written extensively about honor killings of women (women killed by male relatives because of a perception of "unchaste" sexual behavior), who will be in the U.S. to promote her new book Murder in the Name of Honor.

A feminist and human rights defender, Jordanian Rana Husseini is a leading international investigative journalist, whose reporting has put violence against women on the public agenda around the world. The recipient of numerous awards for bravery in journalism, she is a regular speaker at major international events, including the World Organization Against Torture at the 57th Commission on Human Rights in Geneva. She has been interviewed by almost every major international broadcaster from CNN to the BBC.

Literature & Medicine: Humanities at the Heart of Healthcare is a discussion-based program that brings hospital staff together monthly to reflect on the larger mission of medicine through facilitated conversations about literature.

Jonathan D. Spence, Sterling Professor of History Emeritus at Yale University, will speak on "China and the West: A Seventeenth Century Chinese Pioneer."

Professor Spence, a former president of the American Historical Association, is the preeminent American historian of China from the 16th century to the present.
