In this presentation, Patricia Williams Lessane examines the appearance of music, laughter, and female companionship in the writings of African, African American, and Afro-Caribbean women. In particular, attention will be paid to Paule Marshall`s Praise Song for the Widow , and Toni Morrison`s Beloved.
