A Road Scholar Program by Clark (Bucky) Halker

Folksinger and historian Bucky Halker presents a concert-lecture on the folksongs of the Midwest during the period 1860-1890. Halker will devote particular attention to the songs of social and economic protest from the era, many of which came from the farmers and wage workers of the region. The program combines musical performance and commentary.

Bucky Halker is a performer, songwriter, and recording artist, as well as a PhD in American History. He has lectured and performed throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe and is the author of For Democracy, Workers, and God: Labor Protest and Labor Song-Poems. Bucky produced the Illinois Humanities Council's CD series, Folksongs of Illinois, vols. 1-3. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Woody Guthrie Foundation and Archives.
