A Road Scholar Program by Lorraine Schwass Presented in first person and dressed in mid-19th Century clothing, Lorraine Schwass gives an engaging talk about public women in the Civil War era. The Northwestern Sanitary Commission, the US Sanitary Commission, and famous volunteers such as Mary Ann Bickerdyke of Galesburg and Mary Livermore of Chicago are discussed within a social and cultural context.
