In 1905, Einstein showed that the world we see is profoundly shaped by the subatomic world with a logic unto itself. Inside the atom is the system of quantum physics, with properties seemingly so bizarre that Einstein later found it hard to accept. Yet these principles are now essential parts of our lives, responsible for electronics, computers, lasers, and medical imaging. Later, Einstein proposed another new world where space and time are twisted and warped by matter and energy, a world which might also contain hidden dimensions and connect us to parallel universes. A century later, we are using particle accelerators and sophisticated space observatories to reveal a reality even stranger than Einstein's vision.
