As a firsthand illustration of the communal aspect of roots music, the Western Illinois Museum will hold a traditional square dance with professional caller and folklorist Martha Tyner and the Champaign-based roots band, Banjulele.
The dance will re-enact the type of entertainment found throughout rural America in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Specializing in community dance, Martha Tyner will focus on the social interaction of the music and dancing.
