This project will provide a forum for lectures and broad audience discussions of subjects concerning African-American history and struggles for freedom and equality in the ongoing efforts to combat racism in American society. This forum, conducted in Pike County, Illinois, will contribute to a broad, collaborative effort by historians, archaeologists, and members of the local and descendant communities of places like New Philadelphia, Illinois, to come into greater focus within our national memory and heritage.
