This documentary film project will review the story of woman combat nurses in WWII. The history of these 50,000 nurses is little known. One key segment of this film will be on Prudence Burns Burrell, an African-American nurse from Mounds, Illinois. Burrell fought gender and racial discrimination and poverty to become a combat nurse. Her struggle and those of others helped transform the role of nurses in the war and in the nursing profession.Grant Date:
