Ta Rembetika documents and explores the early 20th century Greek Musical Genre for which it is named. The exhibit will feature archival photos and documents, period musical instruments, vintage recordings and musical transcriptions, and a recreation of the Cafe Aman setting in which rembetika was typically performed. A panel discussion of scholars and experts will explore the social significance of rembetika from its advent among refugee communities, through repression during the Metaxas dictatorship and its resurgence in the mid 1970s.Grant Date:
