A one-day humanities conference that will be part of the 15th anniversary edition of the DanceAfrica festival to be held October 15th at the University Center in Chicago. The conference "The State of Black Arts in Chicago" will examine "linkages between past and present movements in the Black Arts, while contemplating the future". The themes to be addressed include: "The Impact of African Art on Chicago Culture", "Kente Cloth or Quilt-Finding a Community for Cultural Creation", "Looking for Lineage-Or Where did Kanye West Come From?". Each session will include "an exercise to identify associated policy issues." The conference will include brief presentations interspersed throughout the day and will close with a preview of participants of this year's dance festival titled Sankofa which includes groups from Uganda, South Africa and the United States.
