Sun Ra's legacy (1914-1993) will be explored in two exhibits and a series of events sponsored by the Hyde Park Art Center in 2006. Asa noted jazz musician, as well as a writer, philosopher, and artist, Sun Ra was an important figure in Chicago and on the south side in particular. The Hyde Park Art Center plans a number of performances and film screenings, a one-day symposium, and the two exhibits as part of an effort to evaluate Ra's considerable influence on music and art.Grant Date:
