"The Curator at Dixon School" is a documentary film project that explores how art is a part of everyday life for the children at Dixon School on Chicago's South Side. It comes to life in the museum-quality art collection of African and African-American art that fills its halls and walls. The woman behind the collection, Joan Dameron Chrisler, an African-American school principal, who wanted to create a nourishing and empowering environment for the children. Former Dixon educator, Carol Briggs, who is now principal of the struggling Kohn school, tries to bring elements from Dixon's world into Kohn. This documentary will trace the school year at both schools, comparing and contrasting the sociology and school culture and how art can make a difference for young people.Grant Date:
