Matti Bunzl
is Associate Professor of Anthropology and History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he also directs the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities. Bunzl's research and teaching interests range from the anthropology of Europe and North America to the history of anthropology and modern Jewish culture. He is the author of the book
Symptoms of Modernity: Jews and Queers in Late-Twentieth-Century Vienna (2004), and co-editor of
Altering States: Ethnographies of Transition in Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union(2000),
Worldly Provincialism: German Anthropology in the Age of Empire (2003), and
Postcolonial Studies and Beyond(2004).
