Gayl S. Pyatt
is a retired attorney in Pinckneyville, Illinois. She served on the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Illinois Gaming Board and is an officer of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. She is active in civic and educational organizations. She was the first woman to be elected president of the University of Illinois Foundation (UIF) and is a life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association. Pyatt received the Distinguished Service Award from the University of Illinois Alumni Association and the President's Award for Service from the UIF. At Southern Illinois University, she also served on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, the Morris Library Board of Visitors, the Founding Chancellor's Council and the Daniel B. Parkinson Society (for generosity to the institution). She was the Illinois representative on the National Republican Platform Committee in 1996. Pyatt has a B.A. degree in the teaching of English from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; an M.S. in family studies from Michigan State University, and a J.D. from Southern Illinois University. She is married to Richard Pyatt, retired president and CEO of Pyatt Funeral Home and Pyatt Partners in Pinckneyville.
