Clark Hulse
is Professor of English and Art History and Dean of the Graduate College at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has published numerous articles on Shakespeare, Renaissance literature, and visual culture, as well as four books:
Metamorphic Verse,
The Rule of Art,
Early Modern Visual Culture, and
Elizabeth I: Ruler and Legend. He has received research fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the British Academy. He has been Visiting Professor of Art History at Northwestern University, and twice has been interim Director of the Center for Renaissance Studies at the Newberry Library. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Chicago Humanities Festival. Hulse graduated from Williams College and received his advanced degrees from Claremont Graduate University. He and his wife Carolyn Hulse live in Chicago. They have two grown children.
