The Honorable George Van Dusen

is Mayor of the Village of Skokie as well as a historian and teacher. He has been called the Renaissance Mayor for his integration of the arts and humanities into municipal activities. As a Village Trustee, and later as Mayor, Van Dusen was a driving force in the establishment of such cultural institutions as the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie and the Skokie Sculpture Park. He has been active in supporting the Skokie Public Library, which has one of the largest collections in the state, as well as working to secure the siting of the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie. During Van Dusen's administration Skokie has been an active participant in IHC activities. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Detroit and both a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. from Loyola University. Mayor Van Dusen was the Director of Suburban Operations for U. S. Congressman Sidney Yates from 1973 until the Congressman's retirement in 1999. He is an adjunct faculty member of Oakton Community College, teaching U.S. History and Government. Van Dusen is an active member of Temple Judea Mizpah, having served as a member of the Board and as Secretary. Van Dusen has lived in Skokie with his wife Susan and their two children for the over 25 years.
