There are moments on a bike when everything feels good: the body is limber and strong, the air is fresh, the road is smooth. Cycling is a pleasure. There are moments on a bike when everything feels bad: the thighs and back ache, the wind blows, the road is steep, and new parts, or old parts, parts you had not felt before—these ache too. Cycling is a pain.

It feels good to ride. It hurts to ride. Often it hurts and feels good at the same time. With these two experiences—or this one complex experience—in mind, Velosophie 2006 will focus on the relation between struggle and satisfaction, suffering and enjoyment, pleasure and pain.

Up for discussion is Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" and Albert Camus' "The Myth of Sisyphus."
