ILLINOIS HUMANITIES COUNCIL WELCOMES NEW STAFF MEMBER

Maureen McCarthy will begin as Director of Development on January 7, 2008.

CHICAGO -The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Maureen McCarthy as Director of Development as of January 7, 2008. This is a new senior position created as a result of organizational growth.

As Director of Development, Ms. McCarthy will create and execute plans to increase major gifts for IHC programs from individuals, corporations, and foundations, and businesses. This support will complement the IHC's existing public and private funding.

"We are delighted to have Maureen join the Council," said Executive Director Kristina A. Valaitis. "Her extensive experience and leadership in donor development and her success in a variety of philanthropic environments will be truly valuable as the IHC continues to revitalize its private fundraising efforts."

Ms. McCarthy has a M.A in Human Services Administration from the Spertus Institute in Chicago and a B.A. in Music Therapy from Illinois State University in Normal. Before joining the IHC, she was Vice President of Development for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, where she supervised all aspects of fundraising including special events, corporate relations, and individual giving.

She is a member of the Chicago Council on Planned Giving and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
