Anne M. Bermier has served the Village of Indian Head Park as an elected Trustee for over 26 years and for the past five years has served as the Trustee Liaison between the Board of Trustees and the Indian Head Park Heritage Center. The Heritage Center, a historical structure built in the 1870s, was acquired in 2001 by the Board of Trustees and Mayor Richard Pellegrino. Ms. Bermier took the lead in establishing the Indian Head Park Heritage Center Library, a volunteer lending library housed in the Heritage Center. Books are donated by area residents and organizations. She has volunteered her time on many occasions to assist with various events at the library, including book readings and commemorative events to recognize the Heritage Center's historical significance to the community. Ms. Bermier also created a docent program for the Center modeled after that of the Art Institute of Chicago and coordinates the individual docents, as well as supervising all program activities at the Center. Ms. Bermier has also distinguished herself as a teacher for over 38 years at St. John of the Cross School in Western Springs, where she serves as a moderator for the Student Council.Return to the archive listing for The Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award - 2006
