Nancy Scott
Nominated By The Honorable Scott Punke
Eureka
Nancy Scott
Nancy Scott, Head Librarian of Eureka Public Library, has helped art and literature to flourish in her community through both her professional and volunteer activities. Under Ms. Scott's direction, the Library offers many reading programs for children of all ages and numerous cultural programs for residents. Through a poetry grant, Ms. Scott featured poems of the week that could be picked up at various area businesses and heard at poetry readings all over town. Outside her work as Head Librarian, Ms. Scott works with parents who home school their children and chairs the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in her county, providing the organization with many creative ideas for getting senior citizens involved in cultural programs in the area. She was also the driving force in reinstating the Walnut Grove Fine Arts Association and now serves as its President. She led the creation of the Eureka Lilac Art Festival, an annual event with a juried art show, which brings over 100 artists to the Eureka College campus to show their talent and sell their work. "Because of Nancy's hard work to promote the humanities in our community," says Mayor Scott Punke, "many of our citizens and children lead richer lives."Return to the archive listing for The Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award - 2006
