Skokie

John Wozniak, Ph.D.

John Wozniak has made significant contributions to the humanities in several capacities. He established the Loyola University Department of Education in 1968 and served as Dean and Professor for three decades. In both his academic career and his nearly 35 years of service as Board Member of the Skokie Public Library, Mr. Wozniak has garnered respect for his considerable intellect, kindness, and "lively commitment to people" as Board President John Graham puts it. Library Director Carolyn Anthony lauds Mr. Wozniak's "clear vision of the public library as the 'people's university'." Among many other contributions, Mr. Wozniak provided leadership for a major library expansion and led the search for its new director. Mayor George Van Dusen believes that "Skokie's library is one of the finest in the state in no small measure due to Mr. Wozniak's dedication." His fellow board members turn to him both for his skill in resolving conflicts and for translations of Greek, Latin, and Polish phrases. Mr. Wozniak has also written several books and many articles on the subject of education.
