Simon Cordery

Simon Cordery holds a PhD in History from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently Assistant Professor of History at Monmouth College. He has received several awards and fellowships for his research projects, and has been the Historical Advisor to the National Railroad Hall of Fame Project in Galesburg, Illinois, since 2002.

Americans and Britons have enjoyed a complicated relationship since 1776. Today, Britain claims special status as the main diplomatic partner of the United States. How and why did this rapport develop? What is the future of this special relationship? The presenter, an Englishman who has lived in the States for thirty years, will offer answers to these intriguing questions. Common culture, a shared heritage, and human inquisitiveness explain why the special relationship is likely to endure despite the stresses created by Britain’s closer contact with Europe.
